Cannot get home battery to charge before EV

I have solar tracking enabled with home battery (Tesla PW3) set as priority to 90% before EV (Tesla). But the EV continues to charge before the home battery, even though home battery below set charge limit. Don’t know why. Anyone had this experience?

Hi @mwilke7. The logs don’t show a clear period where this issue was happening. If you can reproduce the issue, please let me know the data and time when it occurred and I can investigate. Cheers.

This is from 11.32am Australia Eastern std time.
Home battery set a priority to 90% but car is charging?
Thanks

Hi @mwilke7 . At that time, your solar generation was jumping between 8kW and 3kW, likely due to clouds.

At 8 kW, there is enough excess solar to charge the car, because the home battery can only charge at 5 kW. When that screenshot was taken solar had just fallen to 3 kW, but Charge HQ has delay timers before stopping and starting charging, see How frequently will solar charging start and stop on a cloudy day?

The solar increased back to 8 kWh in the next minute, so EV charging continued.

This is normal behaviour for Charge HQ. It will take 6 minutes to stop charging the EV when the excess solar drops below the minimum charge rate. This is to reduce wear on the charging equipment, see Reducing contactor wear when solar charging

There can also be delays sometimes of a minute or 2 for Charge HQ to recalculate the amount of excess solar, depending on the events that have occurred in the last couple of minutes.

Great, Thanks for this
