I have a 2015 Model S, P85D, a Gen 1 charger that I run at 10A/240V/2.4kW, and a Tesla PW3 that can’t talk to the Gen 1 charger or the car. I am unclear based on info on the site if chargehq app can ramp the car’s charging control to match available solar otherwise being exported to the grid. It would only be able to control between 5A (min) and 10A (max). Any info greatly appreciated.
@russ.peel yes, Charge HQ should work with all Tesla vehicles, including the older ones. The charger is not important as Charge HQ controls the charging via the vehicle, not the Tesla HPWC. Please give it a try and let us know if you have any problems. Cheers.
Yes, Jay is the expert and I can confirm from experience that using ChargeHQ with our 2013 Model S and our Gen 2 (non-WiFi) Wall Connector that he’s exactly right. ChargeHQ works very well to send the excess solar power from our Powerwall3 to our Model S, all we have to do is plug the car in before noon to capture all that free charging,
I’ll also say that Charge HQ is very smart about coordinating its efforts with commands from Tesla’s app so that we can also initiate manual charging if we want the car to be charged earlier in the day. eg for a roadtrip. Very well thought out app!
