I have an MG Charge Hub. I have followed and double checked all config settings and confirmed the online status (background status is “OffLine”). I have pinged the chargehq server from my router and confirmed its visibility. But the chargehq reports ‘;Never connected’. The router log reports that a connection was sent, but not responded to (along with a DNS IP address). Has anyone else experienced connection problems and suggest a direction for making a connection?
Hi David. Im having the same problem for weeks now. I have emailed Jay at ChargeHQ and if he can sort it out i will post back here.
I haven’t managed to contact anyone until last week. MG has said they are revamping their website and they will have a firmware update available soon (when they have reestablished the link). The link is now available for the firmware update, but I won’t have time to try it to see if it makes a difference. If you decide to try it, download the existing firmware first if you can. The link is at: MG CHARGE HUB Support | Buckby MG .
Hi. Am having same issue! I tried the firmware update link posted above but it says “not found”. I have followed all of the instructions and I get the never connected message as well. Hope to get this sorted!
Hi @penders1 and @david.deal . The MG ChargeHub is a fiddly charger to get working. Most issues are related to getting the charger connected to the home network.
Please follow the instructions on the Charge HQ MG ChargeHub guide, and also read the relevant sections in the official MG manual as linked from the guide. Most issues are addressed by those two documents.
Ensure to use DHCP in the WiFi settings (refer B.3.2 Via WiFi STA in the user manual).
To get further help here, please post screenshots from the charger configuration portal, in particular:
- the WiFi settings screen
- the OCPP settings screen
- the Charging Status screen (showing Network State info)
Unfortunately I can’t supply screen shots at the moment as I am unable to login to my charger (I have never tried to change its login username/password), so I am attempting to sort this out with MG). MG does not seem to be well organised in supporting the charger…
I will be interested in how you go connecting the other users with similar problems.
I finally managed to connect. The only reasonable way for me to connect was with a cable. Unfortunately the eithernet connection is setup for the 192.168.88.XXX range and one does not seem to be able to change that. My router’s LAN uses 192.168.1.XXX so it won’t connect. There are three approaches to fix this:
- If your router supports vlans, set one up for the 192.168.88.XXX. mask: 255.255.255.0 . This may take some skill.
- Change your routers existing range to 192.168.88.XXX. This may require you to change thei IP assignment to any connected devices that use a fixed IP address (and possibly some IoT devices as well.
- Use an old router and connect its wan port to your existing systems lan port with a cable. Setup the old routers lan to use the range 192.168.88.XXX . Run a cable from your charger to the old router… If you also connect a Laptop to the old router you can access the charger using its IP address.
If you need to access the charger settings by plugging the charger directly into the laptop, remember to set up the eithernet setting to the same range (192.168.88.XXX,
A mask of 255.255.255.0 will generally work. Some devices ask foir ‘paths’. Use “/24”. no quotes.
