Why use OCPP with solar-aware charger?

Apologies in advance, I still don’t quite understand this:

Why would we need a ChargeHQ subscription with an already aware EV charger, eg Zappi v2.1, Wallbox Pulsar Max, Hypervolt Home Pro 3, etc?

All of these offer on-board solar control (part-eco, 100% green, power sharing etc) & integrated via their own app & CT Clamp. And so I still don’t quite get why we would need to use an additional layer of OCPP control on top of this from ChargeHQ (or any other provider like CatchPower for that matter).

My system; 10kw panels, Tesla PW3 & Gateway, Wallbox Pulsar Plus (soon to be upgraded to Max with a Wallbox EM 112 power meter /CT clamp).

Thanks in advance.

Something I can think of on top of my head:

  • Charge on Solar with the Tesla Powerwall app is nowhere near as comprehensive as Charge HQ
  • The scheduling capability, especially if you have a Tesla EV, is far better as Charge HQ can stop charging the car once it reaches a certain percentage.
  • Priority on battery vs EV is better on Charge HQ.

However, if you are already happy with everything, then you do not need any other 3rd party software driven EV charging control.
There is a 14-day trial available so you can take a look.
